Biography

Robyn Berry is a Cape Town-based attorney who obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of the Western Cape in 2020. After completing her articles of clerkship at Simpsons Attorneys Incorporated, she was admitted as an attorney in 2024 and joined VDH Attorneys Incorporated that same year.

Robyn's practice focuses on civil litigation, with particular experience in opposed debt review applications, rescission and variation proceedings, NCR Tribunal matters and High Court appellate matters. She has developed a keen interest in complex litigation involving major South African financial institutions, particularly disputes concerning debt restructuring proposals, affordability assessments and the interpretation and application of the National Credit Act.

With responsibility for managing litigation across 82 courts nationwide, Robyn oversees an extensive portfolio of matters spanning multiple jurisdictions. Her role requires strategic coordination with correspondent attorneys, debt counsellors and other legal practitioners, together with a thorough understanding of court procedures and the practical demands of litigation across South Africa.

Robyn thrives on challenging legal questions and the strategic demands of litigation. Combining meticulous legal analysis with practical problem-solving, she takes pride in identifying the central issues, critically evaluating opposing arguments and developing persuasive, evidence-based legal submissions. She approaches each matter with determination, independent thinking and a strong sense of ownership, always focused on achieving effective, legally sound and commercially sensible outcomes.

Born in Cape Town and raised in Oman, Robyn's multicultural upbringing has shaped her adaptability, broad perspective and natural ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. She is fluent in English, Afrikaans, Arabic and French.

Outside the office, Robyn enjoys reading, hiking, travelling, discovering new places and exploring the Cape's wine farms. Family remains central to her life, and as one of five siblings, she values her close family relationships, including helping care for her retired parents. She also shares her home with two much-loved dogs, who are very much part of the family.

Guided by curiosity, resilience, loyalty and integrity, Robyn believes that effective legal representation extends beyond knowing the law. It requires strategic thinking, sound judgment and the determination to take ownership of a matter and see it through.

Our Attorneys

The People Behind the Process

VDH's legal team brings together attorneys with extensive experience in debt review litigation, court appearances, opposed proceedings, legal research, regulatory matters and the practical application of the National Credit Act.

Our attorneys operate across the Western Cape, Gauteng and Limpopo and are supported by specialised litigation, court-management and administrative teams.

Some members of the firm have spent the majority of their legal careers working in debt review. Others bring experience from general litigation, prosecution, the Magistracy, advocacy, regulatory work and other areas of legal practice.

That combination is deliberate.

Debt review litigation does not happen in isolation. It requires an understanding of civil procedure, consumer-credit law, evidence, enforcement, court practice and the practical financial circumstances underlying each application.

Careers

Build a Career in Specialist Litigation

VDH operates at the intersection of law, litigation, technology and legal process design built around a specialist field.

For attorneys, candidate attorneys and legal professionals, that creates an environment very different from a traditional general practice.

Our team works with high volumes of litigation, but the work is not simply administrative. Attorneys are exposed to court appearances, opposed matters, developing questions under the National Credit Act, legal research, drafting, negotiation and the practical challenges that arise when legislation is applied across courts throughout South Africa.

We are particularly suited to people who are:

  • intellectually curious;

  • practical problem-solvers;

  • comfortable taking responsibility;

  • interested in litigation and legal argument;

  • willing to question inefficient processes;

  • able to work accurately at scale; and

  • committed to maintaining professional standards in a highly specialised practice.

  •

VDH has grown by developing people internally and giving talented individuals the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful work.

If specialist litigation, legal technology and the continuing development of South African debt review law interest you, we would like to hear from you.
